FAQs
Why do I need a course?
Currently, the success rate at Assessment Centre is regularly between 25% and 40%. Many of you who attend the Assessment Centre and then fail, are in fact easily good enough in terms of the seven core competencies, to progress beyond this assessment.
Currently, the success rate at In-Force interviews varies significantly but is still around 50%. However, as with the Assessment Centre, many people fail who possess all the qualities required of a police officer.
Why do people fail?
Lack of technique is the main reason. We have seen individuals who have all the experience to progress but are rejected due to shortfalls in Assessment Centre or interview technique.
The Assessment Centre is very structured and objective. The assessors work strictly to a marking criteria. They are not permitted to make assumptions, help, or give the benefit of the doubt to candidates.
The In-Force interviews are structured differently and although they examine the core competencies, the interview is designed to look at you in more depth and detail.
How can a preparation course help me?
Preparation courses that are ethically run will not give you the answers to the particular problems set within the Assessment Centre or In-Force interview. Good courses will thoroughly explain the format of the Assessment or In-Force interview. They will teach you to recognise what the assessors are looking and listening for and then how to structure your input in such a way as to maximise your scoring potential.
You should also be given the opportunity to practise all parts of the In-Force interview or Assessment Centre, including the Police Initial Recruitment Test (PIRT) and be given expert, personal, constructive and supportive feedback.
By how much will my chances of success improve?
Currently, 90% of our delegates go on to pass the Assessment Centre or In-Force interview.
There are a number of companies offering preparation courses. How do I choose which one is the best?
Take time to consider your options before you decide on a course provider.
See ‘Why choose us?’ for advice on the questions to ask a potential provider.
Can you guarantee I will pass?
No, we cannot guarantee that you will pass. However, we are so confident that you will stand an excellent chance of passing after attending one of our courses that we offer a money back guarantee, or free course if preferred, for those attending the Assessment Centre Preparation course.
